A few days ago we were celebrating the miraculous victory over the vicious Iranian regime. Yes the precision with which we destroyed the air defenses, the amazing ability of the Mossad to pinpoint the location of key personelle and the accuracy of the air strikes that eliminated them, all demonstrated the supreme competence of the IDF. Then Trump’s agreement to use US military power to execute the ‘coup de grace’ to take out the underground nuclear facility at Fordow was an additional unprecedented victory. However so much could have gone wrong but didn’t; for this we must give thanks to Hashem.
All of this raises the question; how come a tiny nation that didn’t even exist a few years ago could achieve so much against a powerful nation like Iran, yet cannot defeat a weak organization like Hamas? Maybe the answer is that we are not following the correct strategy. Gaza is part of Eretz Yisrael that was promised to the Jewish people by Hashem, yet we are not yet committed to returning it to the modern state of Israel. If we defined our objective as rescuing the Promised Land from foreign domination, we might experience the divine help we need. We should be fighting to remove Hamas control, and retain territory as we advance. This is the victory we should be aiming for. Certainly it will be difficult to buck the diplomats who think, incorrectly, that war solves nothing and that all problems can be solved by diplomacy, but if we have faith in Hashem we will succeed
